Altmann & Cherny is a family owned jewellery business in Sydney with an international reputation for excellence in opals. Inside the showroom, near Circular Quay, you’ll marvel at the world-famous black opal called Aurora Australis.
When you visit the Altmann & Cherny, you’ll also learn more about how opals are found, how they’re mined and how to value them. The Aurora Australis was found in 1938 in Lightning Ridge, in outback NSW, and weighs 180 carats. The black opal has been valued at $1 million.
Altmann & Cherny is Australian owned and has been operating since 1948. The showroom is open Monday to Friday, from 9.30am to 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.
