Eden is one of Australia’s best destinations to watch whales, with spectacular vantage points on coastal headlands. The fishing village on the NSW South Coast has plenty of things to do, including whale-watching cruises that will take you close to the majestic mammals in the sparkling blue waters.

Discover Eden’s long association with whales at the Eden Killer Whale Museum, which features boats, whaling gear, photographs and other interesting maritime memorabilia from a time in history when humpbacks and other whales were killed for oil.

The annual whale migration is from May to November, but you can enjoy Eden all year. Fresh oysters, fish, and other delicious seafood are available at local restaurants. Head to Eden Wharf for lunch or dinner with coastal views or head out on the water, cast a fishing line and catch your next meal.

Home to one of the deepest natural harbours in the Southern Hemisphere, Eden’s port receives both domestic and international cruise ships as they make their way along the east coast of Australia. The wilderness along the coast is beautiful in its diversity, from sandy beaches to eucalypt forests.

The Ben Boyd National Park extends north and south of Eden. Along the coast are impressive natural rock arches and caves that have been carved out by millions of years of erosion from waves and winds. The national park is home to yellow-bellied gliders, which have bushy tails, and popular for birdwatching.

Eden has plenty of places to stay, from cottages and motels to bed and breakfasts and camping grounds. From Sydney, the drive to Eden along the gorgeous coast is six hours. You can also fly to Merimbula, where you can rent a car for the short trip to Eden.
